Renewing our Home Office club approval.

I am in the process of trying to renew our Home Office approval – and the process reminded me very much of the scene below from “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.” The Home Office don’t send reminders, and don’t even tell you how much it will cost until the application is complete (or at least as complete as you can from the helpful instructions such as “attach relevant documents.”)

£372 for the renewal – for that fee you’d think you’d at least get a reminder if they regard firearms licensing as such an important adjunct to the public safety.

So where were the renewal forms? Under –

“Crime, Justice and law>policing – Guidance – Apply for or manage a section 5, shooting club or museum licence.

How to license a firearm, manage weapons for a shooting club or get a museum licence.

Prohibited weapons and ammunition (section 5) authority
Carriers, airlines and ground handlers
The Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) exhibition
Shooting clubs
Museum licences”

…… right next to “Beware of the leopard”

Section 5 refers to rocket launchers, machine guns, flamethrowers and the like.
