New (5/8/25) firearm and shotgun certificate application form

It now requires TWO referees for a shotgun certificate, and tightens up the requirements for those referees and asks about includes “time spent abroad.”

It also has a more complex form for your GP, and adds any “neuro-developmental conditions” you might suffer from. (These two last requirements are also on the new Registered Firearms Dealers’ (RFDs) application forms.)

If you have submitted an “old” form that arrived at the firearms licensing department BEFORE 5th September 2025, that must be accepted – with only one referee.

The form is now (and I sincerely wish I was joking) thirty-four sides long – 16 double-sided pages and two blank ones. If you need help with completion, please contact us. Don’t be put off, as eleven of the sides don’t require completion as they’re either blank, notes or guidance. That said, I bow to those with greater knowledge as to what exactly “neuro-developmental conditions” are: If you have expertise in this area, can you let me know?
